During the second half of this term we will be doing the theme ‘Around The World in Eighty Days.’ To introduce the theme we read the story of The Gingerbread Man and then the children baked Gingerbread men. One of the Gingerbread Men escaped from the oven while they were baking. We will use this as a platform to investigate New Zealand, America and South Africa as ‘ The Gingerbread Man’ sends the children a postcard from his travels around the world. This was a wonderful opportunity to practically teach the children about weight and capacity. The children will have the opportunity to learn about the three counties by looking at similarities and differences between them and England. We will be learning a variety of songs and vocabulary from the countries that The Gingerbread Man visits. The children will be encouraged to develop their writing by labeling, writing short sentences and giving meaning to the marks that they make.
